Will this increase my taxes?

No. Quite simply, we are not entertaining any proposals that will increase the tax burden of Hancock residents. Currently we believe the most likely method of funding will be a combination of federal/state grants and a bond that is paid for by user fees on those who choose to utilize this new broadband service. Most similar bonds have been paid off over a 20 year period.

What is the timeline?

We are currently looking to submit our Request for Proposal to many different prospective ISPs in August with responses due by late September. From there we hope to bring a warrant article to a town vote as soon as possible, but likely during the 2022 meeting.

Has anyone else done this?

Yes. Many of our neighboring communities have followed a similar path to universal coverage. Currently Greenfield and Dublin are building out universal fiber.
